Minnesota DWI Knowledge Practice Test

Choosing a designated driver is a highly effective strategy to prevent a driving while intoxicated (DWI) incident. A designated driver is someone who abstains from alcohol and remains sober during an outing, ensuring they can safely transport others who may have consumed alcohol. This proactive decision eliminates the risks associated with impaired driving altogether, since the designated driver is responsible for getting everyone home safely without the influence of alcohol.

The other options, while they may be helpful in certain contexts, do not provide the same level of assurance against the risk of DWI. For instance, simply driving slower than usual does not compensate for impaired judgment or coordination caused by alcohol consumption. Drinking water between alcoholic drinks can help mitigate the effects of alcohol to some extent, but it may not prevent impairment entirely, especially if significant amounts of alcohol are consumed. Relying on public transportation only periodically can leave individuals vulnerable on occasions when they do choose to drink and may not have an alternative arranged. Therefore, having a designated driver is the most reliable and recommended practice to avoid a DWI.
